Dean wouldn’t say he was nervous, but he was anxious. It felt like anxiety because here he was knocking on Nate’s door with a bottle of wine with a date planned where they would stay in instead of going out. He respected Nate’s request about going slow but he can’t help think that tonight might be the night that would change.
“Hey you,” Nate said when he opened the door, grinning.
“Hey.” Dean leaned in and kissed his cheek then stepped inside as Nate stepped back to let him. He held up the bottle of wine. “Have you ever had honey mulled wine?”
“No, but I’m curious.”
“I figured with the weather being crap and cold we could use something warm. Hopefully it doesn’t clash with what you have planned.”
“I think it’ll be perfect. Let me show you.”
Nate led the way through his studio space to an area in the back Dean had only seen once or twice. It was a nice open space that Nate made into a living room sort of area but it all faced a blank wall. Tonight the floor was covered in blankets and pillows and a sheet was pinned to the wall.
“You made a cuddle pit.” Dean’s grin split his face and he quickly kicked off his shoes because the only thing that could make a tangle of blankets and pillows uncomfortable were shoes.
“I was going for blanket fort but I guess cuddle pit works too,” Nate said with a laugh as Dean threw himself down into the nest and wiggled around as he made himself comfortable. “What about your wine?”
“Important work is being done.”
Nate stood over him while Dean pushed and maneuvered pillows for maximum comfort and cuddling. Once he had it perfect he got on his knees, grabbed Nate by the wrist and yanked him down into the cuddle pit.
“I also have dinner upstairs in the loft,” Nate pointed out while Dean wrapped around him and began to nuzzle his neck.
“Are you hungry?” he asked, voice soft and warm.
“No, not really.”
“Good.”
This was probably the best part of taking things slow. Dean was a cuddle slut and he loved simply lying around with Nate, kissing and touching, being together because a lot of his hook ups that didn’t happen. It was sex and then leaving. That was never as satisfying as this.
“Your hands are freezing,” Nate muttered as Dean slipped a hand under his shirt and spread it out across his lower back. “Did you lose your gloves again?”
“… maybe.” Dean grinned against Nate’s neck. “I don’t need them, you’re always warm from the fires. Your apartment is awesome.”
“You’re not going to like it so much in the summer when it’s a million degrees in here.” Nate gently nudged Dean’s chin back with his thumb and kissed Dean deeply.
“You’ll be here, right? Totally worth it. I’ll get to distract you by being shirtless the whole time.”
“Maybe I can finally sketch your tattoos right then. You haven’t gotten another one have you?” Nate trailed his fingers down Dean’s left arm over his sleeve of tattoos that covered the whole limb down to his wrist.
“Not yet,” Dean replied, taking a nip at Nate’s incredible jaw line. His boyfriend has the best jawline in the world, so square and perfect, making him so handsome. Nate might look like some sort of big hero but he had an artist’s soft eyes and kind smile. Dean absolutely loved how he looked.
“You look good, though, with all of them.”
“Do you find me sexy?” Dean wiggled his eyebrows and it made Nate laugh like he wanted.
“You’re a work of art,” Nate said without a trace of teasing. He’s being completely honest and earnest and Dean feels his heart flutter achingly in his chest.
“Damn it.” Dean drew him into a kiss and made it last a long time. “How dare you be so cute and perfect.”
“Gah, stop, I am not.” Nate blushed all the way to the tips of his ears which Dean nibbled on because he was too cute to resist. “We were supposed to have dinner and then cuddle while watching a movie. You’re not very good at following plans.”
“You showed me a cuddle pit. Why did you think I wouldn’t immediately cuddle?” Dean gave Nate a skeptical look which only made the artist smile at him.
“I forget how adorable you are.”
“Awwww.” Dean leaned in and rubbed his nose against Nate’s. “If you’re hungry, all you have to do is say so. We’ve got all night to cuddle. I can control myself.”
Nate shook his head, leaned in for a kiss and when he drew back rested his forehead against Dean’s. “No, not yet. I really like this.”
“Yeah, me too.”
